Conditioning for Superheroes: Building toward Those Big Strength Moves (Ground & Air)
In this workshop we will use a hybrid ground and air approach to sneak our way up to those sometimes-intimidating, nevertheless-enthralling strength moves such as meat hook, skin the cat variations, grasshoppers, and straight-leg inversion variations. Using an approach rooted in Kinesiology and Pilates studies, we will hone in on movement patterns and functional strength exercises, finally taking our discoveries up into the air to unlock new patterns to build a safe, effective approach to training those big moves. Our focus moves will be chosen by the interests of the students on workshop day, so bring what you’re working on and we’ll go over it with a fine tooth comb!
11:45am - 1:15pm
Vertical Weaving on Rope or Fabric
This intermediate-advanced workshop offered in either fabric or rope treats the apparatus as a spider-web, looking for lesser known moments of pause, shelves, and loops on our way up and down. Rather than sticking to the direct route, we will find exciting new possibilities for ease and flow, meandering our way up and treating every moment down as a new pathway opening up.
1:30pm - 3pm
Lyra beyond the Splits
Bust open your assumptions about what lyra can be in this intermediate-advanced workshop that explores different ways of moving in and around the hoop, from dynamic rotations to slides to drops to unexpected balance possibilities and strength moves. Find some bold movement pathways to add a lile edge to your lyra life!
